HOBBIES: Gorre & Daphetid, the only motion picture ever made of John Allen's layout

In the world of model railroading, there is one man who almost everyone considers the best model railroader in history, and that would be John Allen of Monterrey, California. Fellow hobbiests called him "The Wizard of Monterrrey." He created a model railroad that was based in a fantasy land that resembled both the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada mountains. His model railroad was very much influenced by the American West, and he did something quite unique with his train fairyland: he ran his model trains exactly like a real railroad, complete with time tables and train orders.

This video contains the only known film footage of the railroad. Sadly, the entire thing was destroyed by fire in the early 70's.
