MOVIE: "The Foxes of Harrow"

Another movie courtesy the Turner Classic Movie channel, this time the 1947 epic entitled "The Foxes of Harrow" starring Rex Harrison and Maureen O'Hara. This was a wonderful black and white film detailing what life was like in New Orleans during the 1820's amongst the rich and plantation owners.
LESSON: You might be able to buy your way into high society, but that doesn't make you a gentleman.

The mass production of cheap consumer goods, most assembled abroad, redefined wealth or, rather, disguised poverty. Suddenly the lower middle classes and the poor had in their palms the telecommunications power of the Pentagon of the 1970s, the computing force of IBM in the 1980s, and the entertainment diversity of the rich of the 1990s. They could purchase big screens for a fraction of what their grandparents paid for black-and-white televisions and with a computer be entertained just as well cocooning in their basement as by going out to a concert, movie, or football game.
But such electronic narcotics did not hide the fact that in terms of economics the lifestyles of their ancestors were eroding. The new normal was two parents at work, none at home; renting as often as buying; an eight-year rather than three-year car loan; fewer grandparents around the corner for babysitting or to assist when ill; and consumer service defined as hearing taped messages of an hour before reaching a helper in India or Vietnam.
High-tech gadgetry and the power to search the Internet did not seem to make Americans own more homes, pay off loans more quickly, or know their neighbors better. If in 1970 a nerd slandered one on the sidewalk and talked trash, he might not do it twice; in 2018, he did it electronically, boldly, and with impunity behind an array of masked social-media identities.

MOVIE: "Giant"

Thanks to the Turner Classic Movie channel, I was finally able to see most of the 1956 movie called "Giant" starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean. At three hours long, it was quite a haul, but for the most part, well worth the effort.
LESSON: Some people just never change, no matter how much money or fame they have. If they are rotten to begin with, money and wealth will just accelerate their downfall.

The article should be entitled "FISA documents reveal FBI collusion with the Obama administration and the Clinton campaign".
The entire "Russian Collusion" story was sham from the second it was uttered, but as the "investigation" continues, there are many who are investigating the investigation, and what they are finding is truly shocking:
Our media’s valiant efforts to distract us notwithstanding, information continues to seep out that underscores how badly a housecleaning is needed in Washington, D.C.
Last week saw the release of the applications used to obtain warrants from the FISA court to spy on Carter Page, an adviser to the Trump presidential campaign. Obtained by Judicial Watch, the 400-plus pages of (heavily redacted) documents support the conclusions earlier drawn by the House Intelligence Committee (and denounced by Democrats as hysteria): the FISA warrants were obtained through obfuscation and deceit.
As various commentators predicted would be proven, the bulk of the information that formed the basis for the FISA warrant applications was the “dossier” of allegations about Donald Trump’s activities in Russia. This dossier was provided to the FBI by British spy Christopher Steele. Steele was hired during the 2016 presidential campaign by opposition research firm Fusion GPS, who was paid by Hillary Clinton’s law firm Perkins Coie, who was paid by the Clinton campaign and the DNC. The allegations were scandalous and completely unverified, in violation of federal statutes and FISA court rules.
In other words, the FBI used oppo research paid for by the Democrats as justification for government spying on a political opponent and other Americans.

TV: Sibling Band Perform Touching Original Called "Lifeline"

I've been watching "America's Got Talent (AGT)" for several years now, but never understood why I did not see a single band on the show, ever, even though there are acts and talents from just about every entertainment genre you can think of.
Well, a band called "We Three", made up of two brothers and a sister, finally broke the "band barrier" I've been wondering about. They are just not talented, these three are truly star potential.
Watch and be amazed at their original song "Lifeline".
