Thankfully the FX cable channel decided to show the Captain America movies on July 4th. Surprisingly, this film may be one of the most intelligent super hero films ever made. I've seen it several times, and always enjoy it, and also learn something new with each viewing.
Captain America, his boss Nick Fury, and his friend Black Widow, have been targeted to be terminated, by the very organization they work for: S.H.I.E.L.D. The reason why is very simple: several key leaders of S.H.I.E.L.D. are a conspiracy known as Hydra, that has it's roots in World War II's NAZI Germany. They don't want righteous superheroes messing with their plans, so those three have to be killed. Basically, almost everyone they knew and worked alongside of turns against them.
Kind of reminds me of a guy named Boethius, and what happened to him.....
Lesson: The worst and most dangerous conspiracies are the ones at the highest levels.
